First launched in 1879 by the California Fig Syrup Co., CALIFIG carries a rich legacy as a truly unique product with a deep history.

In the year 1879, a small group of visionary pharmacists from San Fransisco sought to create a remedy for the common digestive ailments that plagued many. In their quest for inspiration and for harnessing the power of local ingredients to promote health and well-being, they naturally turned to the pristine bounty of California, renowned for the splendour of its scenery, the fertility of its soil and the mildness of the climate. They soon unveiled the medicinal benefits of figs.

 

A traditional, natural remedy

For centuries, figs have been celebrated for their natural fibre and digestive properties.

Traditionally used to support regular bowel movements and promote overall digestive health, figs have long been a go-to remedy for natural wellness.

The Californian pharmacists meticulously crafted an innovative formula that combined fig extract with other natural ingredients such as calcium to enhance its efficacy. The result was a gentle, natural yet powerful, syrup that not only regulated bowel movements but also promoted overall digestive health.

The California Fig Syrup was born, claimed as “Nature’s pleasant laxative” and “the most valuable laxative known to mankind”.

The California Fig Syrup Company established itself as the sole manufacturer of the Syrup of Figs. Word of Califig's effectiveness spread quickly and demand soared. The Californian syrup was manufactured from high-quality, fres supplied figs, with the highest manufacturing standards. Counters in the great commercial centers were established around the world and The California Fig Syrup was supplied to all the nations.
